Well I thought it's now or never, so I've nominated the Anne Frank article on FAC. Let's see how it stands up to scrutiny!! Rossrs 06:51, 5 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I think the bit you added about the 5 pages is good. I've tweaked it just a little bit, but good, it wraps that section up nicely. I've left a note on sj's talk page asking for a response to the edits done after the oppose vote. Hopefully will get a reply. Rossrs 21:26, 10 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Featured Article !!! Congratulations and thank you !! Rossrs 13:29, 11 Feb 2005 (UTC)
thanks for nominating young Anne to go on the main page, and thanks also for letting me know. I hope they'll bend the rules. I'm learning every day here - I did not know you could request having something featured on the main page. I thought some faceless committee just used the articles as they saw fit. cheers ! Rossrs 09:07, 21 Feb 2005 (UTC)
I was just minding my own business, and lo and behold, Anne Frank's face on the main page. This is very exciting! :-D Rossrs 09:45, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)
and the vandals have been very busy - not surprisingly. Such a blinding lack of intellect. It's good that so many people have been jumping straight in to fix it. Rossrs 10:12, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Yes, I was just about to tell you to keep your anti-vandal bug swatter at hand, when the bulding I'm in was evacuated because of a fire alarm! Ah, well, we're back inside now. It was a nice show, anyway. I'd suggest we take a close look at the article tomorrow (or so), and see if the inevitable additions need any editing. Cheers. --Plek 10:52, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hi Plek! No I'm not on holiday yet, but this time next week... I've had a look at the comments and immediately made the Pia Zadora connection also. I wonder if we could just swap the quotes. Would that work? hmmm Seriously, yes he does have a point. I don't know what the answer is, but I'll put down my ideas. Cheers. Rossrs 11:38, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)

wow! I love that Washington Post review. "Worst actress in the English speaking world" !!! But the real question for any serious cinema goer - was she worse than Pia Zadora? I wonder what Bob Gulla would say?  :-) On a more serious note, I think we're making great progress with this. I had a bad moment when I realized I had an edit conflict, so I hope I picked up everything. I think so. Also thanks for checking Anne Frank. I've never been able to spell "accommodate". Rossrs 16:37, 6 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Hi, Sorry I didn't reply about Kylie... I didn't see your messages, and I didn't receive a message alert. Kylie's acting - well I think she's great in every other department, but as an actress I think she's like watching an accident slowly happen. That's why the Moulin Rouge! bit works so well - she doesn't have to act! I quite like the automaton image, however I can see she looks like a mannequin. I only chose that because as an "album cover" it qualifies as fair use, and it didn't have any writing on it. I'll see what I can come up with. I'll try to find maybe a screenshot from a video or live performance and see if I can get something that's reasonable quality. I've been trying to find one positive quote about her, to balance the Miki Berenyi of Lush quote where she says she should be fought at every turn. I thought something from another musician would be good but haven't been able to find anything. Maybe this will be a future featured article. I can see the arguments against it are going to be Anne Frank X 100. Rossrs 01:57, 12 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Hi again. I think I've had a good idea. I have been thinking that the Minogue article made too much use of album covers, they don't particularly illustrate the text effectively and make the article seem a little repetitive. So while looking for screenshots, I found some that I think are really good. I've substituted some of the album covers for screenshots, and I think they are more instructive, address some of the points made and give the page more variety. Rather than drastically edit the page, I've made a test page. Can you have a look here, at: The all new, all singing, all dancing Kylie Minogue page, and tell me what you think please? Cheers Rossrs 04:57, 12 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Hi. I think what you've done is great. I'm glad you were able to sharpen the "Better the Devil You Know" image. I wanted something that was adult rather than just another display of flesh, and I like that image. The Money Can't Buy image is superb too. (I don't like the Body Language cover. I think she looks like a 60s Bond girl or something. Don't like it at all, so I'm happy you've removed it) I'll try to find something else for the Fever tour. I was trying to find something that gave an indication of the sets, the dancers, the costumes etc all in one shot, but yes it does look cluttered. hmmmm. Failing that, the DVD I have also has her Brit Awards performance, so that might have some possibility. I must get that Money Can't Buy DVD...

I'm glad you like the Ophelia thing. I was very excited when I found that. I was thinking "Just let someone try to say that's not encyclopedic!". Editing - agree with you on every point. With regards to quotes from "The Australian", that is the most respected newspaper in Australia. The equivalent of the "London Times" or the "New York Times" so praise from them, is praise indeed. I'd like to leave one of them but you're right, there are too many. Likewise one quote comparing her to her peers but not all of them.

About leaving Deconstruction, joining Parlophone, Nick Cave etc. I don't think there's a story there. Just coincidence I think. I read that Minogue was used to being PWL's number one act, and didn't like just being one of the roster at Deconstruction and she thought they could have tried harder to promote her. (they spent very little on promotion I think). On the other hand they were expecting to make a huge amount of money off her with minimal investment and were disappointed when they didn't, so the parting was mutual dissatisfaction. Then when she was shopping around for a new contract (same interview) she was supposedly with a Parlophone bigwig who said "Well Miss Minogue, the thing is we don't have anyone like you on our books", to which she replied "nobody does". Which is a nice anecdote but I think she was going to sign with whoever gave her a good deal, and Parlophone gave her that, plus a lot of artistic control. Maybe Nick Cave recommended Parlophone to Minogue, or vice versa, but I've never read anything to that effect.

It's taking shape! I'm happy for the Sandbox page to be used for playing around with getting it right before it's taken onto the main page. So you're welcome to do whatever you like. What you've done so far has been just great. Rossrs 07:52, 13 Feb 2005 (UTC)

new Fever screenshot. And sound samples added. Rossrs 08:55, 13 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Hi, I've added a talk page to the Kylie sandbox. I thought it would be easier to have all the ideas in one place. Talking about the Kylie Sandbox. It'll be easier to delete later if it's in on place. ;-)

G'day - unfortunately no email. Could you send it again please? I've checked my preferences and the email address is correct. Also, it's been kinda nice having a Kylie-break the last few days, but I've been thinking it might be time to nominate. I'm going on holidays in mid March (about the 16th I think) and I'll be out of range for 3 weeks, and I don't want to bail out and leave you dealing with the (of course there won't be any) objections. Would you like to do the honours? Rossrs 11:48, 24 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Hello, I think the KM nomination looks fine. I'm not sure what the protocol is by the third nomination, so what you've written sounds good. I also agree with the Madonna article - too over the top now. As for Anne's new category :-) words fail me... Rossrs 21:44, 27 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for taking care of the nomination! 4 supports already! That's getting off to a great start. I forgot to mention (but you've probably noticed) I added another photo. I was looking for a photo for something else and couldn't help myself. So it's a screenshot from "Confide In Me" and I put it down with the sound downloads where it was looking a bit bare. If you don't like it, just delete it. I won't mind. It's so good to read people saying good things about our article! Rossrs 08:00, 28 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Success!! Congratulations to you on a job very well done - for all your hard work and excellent judgement!! Rossrs 23:19, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)
I appreciate your comments, and I enjoyed working with you also. Likewise, feel free to contact me at any time. I'd always be happy to hear from you. cheers. Rossrs 12:39, 3 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hello Plek - Guess who is going to be featured on the main page on April 27? have a look here. The positioning of this message to you should be a clue. Did Terry Blamey ever reply to your email? cheers Rossrs 00:27, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

A.F. FAC edits

[edit]

Hmm, how odd! I don't know why I didn't get an edit conflict, nor why my request for a separate article about the book didn't show up. Yes, it was just a mistake; thanks for the correction. It's shaping up to be a fine article so far. +sj + 09:33, 7 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Edit summary

[edit]

Thanks for the advice Plek, much appreciated. I should certainly use the edit field more liberally, and will try to in future. All the same, it's hard for me to see that not using it makes edits indistinguishable from vandalism, a moment's reading should tell the difference. Thanks, The Recycling Troll 10:51, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit]

Thanks for your note, Plek. I'm uncertain at the moment as to whether proceeding further is the right thing to do. This editor has never communicated with any other member of this community, so far as I can tell, despite having made, I believe, around 1,700 edits. I've found an e-mail address for him, and have e-mailed him a friendly note saying his lack of response to messages about his edits is causing some confusion and would he please talk to us about it. I suspect I'll get no response, but I'd like to leave it a few days to see whether it makes a difference. Thanks for helping out with this; it's much appreciated. I'll keep you posted. For rational comments, sensible remarks, and inexhaustible cool in the face of VfD debate, you are awarded the Iceberg of Cool Reason.

Your comments on the Khakain VfD were insightful, cool, rational, and well-reasoned. They should probably be preserved somewhere in a formal policy.

Keep up the good editing. I have created the Iceberg of Cool Reason award to recognize the words and deeds of editors who calmly and coolly demonstrate that—to borrow your words—it's about the article, not about you. Feel free to add it to your User page. Or not. :)

Hello Plek - Just wanted to say thanks again for your comments on my peer review request for Pinatubo. I've done a fair bit more work on the article now in response to your suggestions, and I think it could be ready for an FAC nopmination, but I wondered if you had any other comments before I take it over there?

Thanks also for the suggestions on Silverpit crater's peer review which helped it make it to featured status! Worldtraveller 00:39, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hello

[edit]

Welcome back Plek! It's good to see you. You were gone so long. Cheers Rossrs 02:01, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I would say it more than demonstrated her courage. Bjorn Again can be quite scary, especially Frida Longstokin. I loved it so much I hesitated in changing it. It offered so many layers - Nelly Furtado presumptuously considering herself on a par with Bjorn Again and saying she'd like the chance too. Minogue demonstrating even further bravery by doing a duet with Boy George. I've filed it under "favourite edits".  :-) Rossrs 06:10, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Chris Kraft and Gene Kranz

[edit]

Thanks for your congratulations on the Kraft article--I really appreciate your support and the editing work that you put in. It really helps to have an independent eye who is able to give the article a critical look-over in the final stage.

My next project is Joseph Francis Shea, which I'm halfway through at the moment. I'd thought about working on Gene Kranz, but to be honest the article at least seems in better shape than many of the other Apollo-related articles. I'm somewhat curious to see how good it can get while following the typical Wikipedia bit-by-bit approach. Having said that, I may pick it up later on once I've finished Shea, and if it's something that you're interested in working on, I would certainly be willing to help out. Dannii Minogue samples

[edit]

The inclusion of sound samples would be wonderful and I think it would greatly add to the article! I agree with you on the length of the samples. Anything less than 30 second is just too short for the listener to be able to take anything from it. Samples that short would not be worth adding to an article. Thank you so much for putting the samples together, I had no clue where to start! -- Underneath-it-All 22:10, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the compliment Plek. As far as rationales go, the ones I used in the big-sister article are all the same, and for all the attention given to fair use in images, sound samples seem to attract very little discussion. I think you were right to include "Love and Kisses", although the song is a dog. (There was a great parody of the song on Australian TV, which I think you would appreciate. The words were changed of course, including the chorus which went from "All I need is your love and kisses" to "All I need is a famous sister"). If anything, I suppose her "early" period is under-represented. Maybe "This is It" or "Jump to the Beat" could be included, especially because they convey a more "pop" sound than her later efforts which are more specifically in the "dance" genre. Just a thought, but obviously there needs to be a limit on the number of songs used. Rossrs 21:01, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Maserati MC12 FAC

[edit]

Thanks for commenting on the Maserati MC12 nomination, I was a bit worried about the prose myself. I had a friend copyedit most of the article (in my account) yesterday afternoon so I got at least 1 pair of fresh eyes and it's listed at WikiProject League of Copyeditors. I was hoping that you could point out some of the errors so that I may get it up to standard. Thanks, James086Talk 06:44, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I used one of your revert edits as an example. I'm not wishing to draw you into it, but it was a good example to give. I just wanted to let you know that I had included it. I was going to report you for the Kylie and Bjorn Again edit too, but that's been more than a week, so unfortunately you're off the hook. Thanks for your detective work. It seems that in the last day while I've been busy working, a certain user has gone into cerebral meltdown, has started attacking another editor, and has got himself blocked. Toomuchtrivia tag on the Chicken Run article

[edit]

I reverted your reversion on this article for the simple reaosn that WP:AGF does not always apply, and, in this case, I believe it does not apply. You may revert my revision if you believe the tag is justified as I believe other users may be more qualified to make that charge. But it is my belief, upon preponderance of the evidence, that the toomuchtrivia tags were added across the project in a disruptive manner, hence my revertings. In the few cases where the tags were justified, I defer to other editors to make that call. TheGreenFaerae 00:52, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi Plek, I'm glad you did that and I don't understand why last time around there was no result. There's something about that kind of dogged persistence in working against consensus, without discussion, that I do not understand. It annoys me greatly. It'll be interesting to see what happens. Rossrs 09:41, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I just saw your reference to autism and it's so weird. I'd been thinking that the lack of interaction was somewhat autistic in character, but I didn't dream it might be the true reason. I restored all the warnings to the talk page. Not that they'll be considered of course, but just so that anyone else (and there have been several others) who might choose to leave a message there will see that there is a history. I'd already commented and restored those edits before seeing your link to the other user page with the autism comment, so now I'm thinking maybe this type of approach is bound to fail. AIV report (take 2)

[edit]

Howdy Plek - I think the complaint you've put on AIV is a little more complex than what is normally intended for that board. It really deals with imminent and persistent vandalism. I would normally suggest writing up a more detailed complaint for AN/I, but you've already done that (in a very clear and well written fashion) and it was not acted upon. Please give me a bit to look through the history and I'll follow up asap. Kuru talk 02:18, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I'm convinced it's the same person as the IPs and (obviously) the other named account. I've started him out with a 31 hour block to see if I can get him to at least comment on it, since warnings seem to have zero effect. I'm hesitant to do much more at the moment since it appears that he is contributing (I think). I've added Kylie Minogue to my watch list; but please let me know on my talk page if he removes other people's comments from article talk pagess again. Kuru talk 02:47, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free use disputed for Image:Dannii_Minogue_-_Love_And_Kisses.ogg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Dannii_Minogue_-_Love_And_Kisses.ogg. Unfortunately, I think that you have not provided a proper rationale for using this image under "fair use". Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page. Note that the image description page must include the exact name or a link to each article the image is used in and a separate rationale for each one. (If a link is used, automated processes may improperly add the related tag to the image. Please change the fair use template to refer to the exact name, if you see this warning.)

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 04:29, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You made a big mistake, I think you should fix it!

[edit]

In this citation, you referenced Cooper Anderson, but his name is ANDERSON COOPER. It's really not that hard. I suggest you fix this critical error, which has gone undetected for over 18 months.TehFreezer (talk) 06:02, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Ua93-911-seismic.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. JaGatalk 03:40, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
