In the first paragraph, "Constructed from 1887, it is named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose company designed and built the tower." "Constructed from 1887" seems like it should be a range such as "from 1887 to 1889" or "construction began in 1887" AsianAmericanVisibility (talk) 14:00, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Convoluted and surprising section about Haiti and the financing of the Eiffel Tower[edit]

I read the article of the New York Times that this section sources, and did my own research, and I think the link between the activities of the CIC in Haiti and the Eiffel Tower is very convoluted. The CIC was not the only bank financing the Eiffel Tower, and the revenue from Haiti was very far from being the only source of revenue of the bank. The link the New York Times makes with the Eiffel Tower in their article is more an exaggeration to get a political message across than factual veracity, and I don't see the relevance of talking about Haiti here, as it is already explained in more fitting articles. “There was multiple protests...” Should read “There were...” 2001:5B0:2711:7498:E454:44EF:2494:9F37 (talk) 18:17, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Steps[edit]

The official website has 1,665. 327 + 347 + (991) = 1,665.

It says 1,802 when opened. 360 + 380 + 1,062 = 1,802. Implies only one change: in 1983. https://www.toureiffel.paris/en/news/visit/take-stairs-and-discover-eiffel-tower-new-way

Many sites say it opened with 1,710.

No site (that I could find) reliably cites 1,792.

One with 1,792, has a typo (in a different spot: 564, should be 364). It says changes were made in 1900. https://www.wonders-of-the-world.net/Eiffel-Tower/Renovations-of-the-Eiffel-tower.php

No site (that I could find) could tell me when the third level stairs were closed to the public. But 1900 seems likely.

Note: there are 3 posts in Archives asking about Steps.

The last paragraph in the history, origin section should be removed, it has its place in specific articles, but not in the history section of the article about the Eiffel Tower. The article that this section sources uses the Eiffel Tower as a symbol, but its link with colonisation in Haiti is far-fetched. Aurci (talk) 09:14, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
