Lead Section

[edit]

The Introduction has nothing to do with the Music of Ukraine, but instead lists the location and ethnic groups of Ukraine. It should just be deleted or revised so that it would summarize the article's main points giving a good overview of the music. (See: Wikipedia:Lead section)--Boguslav 01:34, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • It is useful, and shoud be kept. There are still a lot of people who have no idea where and what it is. Ethnic composition info is extremely useful for music.Galassi 01:49, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ethnic info, however, doesn't provide information about Ukrainian Music. The topic of this article is not the location of Ukraine and the ethnic backgrounds of Ukraine, but the Music of Ukraine. The lead section should be an overview of the topic of the article. You should read the Wikipedia:Guide to writing better articles#Introductory material and Wikipedia:Lead section, where this is clearly stated. --Boguslav 02:40, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Boguslav: the lead gives disproportionate detail about Ukraine's ethnic makeup which the article itself does not reflect. Some of this detail would be merited if the article had sections on the musical traditions of the non-ethnic Ukrainian groups mentioned in the lead; but as it stands the lead is verbose and largely irrelevant. I don't think that Galassi's argument that "It is useful, and shoud be kept" stands up: I agree it's useful, but on that basis it should be put it in the Ukraine main page, which is already linked by the opening word of the lead. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Timberframe (talkcontribs) 11:24, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Black Metal

[edit]

What about these guys? Drudkh is an amazing black metal band that uses Ukranian folk elements in there music. And also some of the poets.

I agree that Ukrainian black metal should be represented in this article, such as Kroda, Hate Forest, Drudkh, and a couple more of the well-known bands. However, much of this style remains somewhat obscure, and as I do not live in Ukraine, cannot attest to how they are recognized within Ukraine. Black metal definitely deserves a mention, without a doubt. --96.225.199.116 (talk) 05:28, 30 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Need clarifications

[edit]

The author states that: Ukrainian folk song can be divided into 3 broad aesthetic categories (a deliberate if necessary oversimplification...): The first is an archaic type of modal "a Capella" song in which a phrase sung by a

The problem is that it is not clear what is the second and third types of folk music
