Welcome

[edit]

Hi and welcome to wikipedia. I noticed you had a blank talk page, so I decided to welcome you. I hope you like it and decide to stay. Here are some handy links for newcomers.

Also you can sign your name on talk pages and vote pages with three tildes like this ~~~, and your name with a time stamp with four like this ~~~~. Howabout1 16:23, 8 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My biggest disappointment so far with Wikipedia has been the very permissive attitude about non-canonical material being allowed in with regard to articles about Star Trek. Admittedly a very esoteric issue, but articles that are almost entirely unofficial fan speculation being passed off with no label as being as authoritative as something that actually has been shown on screen. Apparently if I just come up with some vaguely believable sounding nonsense about anything having to do with Trek and put it in an article, it can stay because "canon" is irrelevant.--Wingsandsword 06:33, 9 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Lincoln County High School

[edit]

Although you have that link, it is incorrect and I will tell you why. That article has been edited 4 times so far, 3 times by you and once by me. Well I edited because I actually went to that school and I know that this number is incorrect because new people enroll all the time and I have even left since then. So that number is not accruate, and it's best to estimate. I won't do it until we discuss this some. Thanks. Please reply to me on my talk page. Wwefan980 18:44, 18 August 2007 (UTC) Well I went more recently then you did... but I get what you are saying. I will look around and if I can't find another updated link I will simply not edit that page then. Wwefan980 21:52, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article has been improved drasticaly, I think this is a good enough reason to reopen the FA status of this article. To be fair I am notifying all parties involved with the article on old candidacy. If I forgot one of you, its not intentional. Thats all for now Cat chi? 1 July 2005 00:15 (UTC)

Hi, I was interested in your opinion about anonymous editors.

On a different topic, are you planning to write an article about menkyo kaiden some time soon? That link has been red for a long time. --DannyWilde 01:57, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I was actually writing it right now as I recieved this message, so yes, that link should go blue in just a few minutes, only a computer crash kept it from going up about an hour ago. --Wingsandsword 02:12, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Oh dear, that's annoying for you. --DannyWilde 14:26, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Well, my initial stub of menkyo kaiden is up, I'm not very good with getting Kanji to appear in wikipedia, so if you want to add the proper writing for it or clear it up further go ahead, but I thought there should be at least a stub there for now. I had a longer article written but a computer crash earlier today went and ate it, so I put this up for now. I went through and wikilinked every mention of the term I could find in a search.
As for my opinion on anonymous editors, I know it's not likely to happen since the Wikimedia Foundation considers that a "Foundation Issue" and as unchangable as the NPOV doctrine, but I still want to make my feelings known. It seems like the vast, overwhelming majority of vandalism in Wikipedia comes from anonymous editors, especially those with few edits to their IP. On most message boards on the internet you can't even post without registering a user account, much less contribute to a reference work. I also wonder about the legality of anonymous editors, since the the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act requires any web site to verify that anybody posting on it is over the age of 13 (and additional reason many message boards are registration only now).
From my experience, the typical vandal is somebody who stumbles across wikipedia, realizes they can edit things, and blanks articles or inserts random jibberish, obscenities, insults or just being downright rude (like the picture of Palpatine as the portrait of Pope Benedict XVI or posting a scan of the page of "the spoiler" to Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince). By going to just the same level of verification/registration as any typical message board, you get rid of the person who does this on impulse. I understand the idea that anybody should be able to contribute to Wikipedia, and I agree with it, but I do think that there should be a step that everybody has to take first of making themself known. Yes, it won't stop the determined vandal, but that's what reverts are for. --Wingsandsword 02:54, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for making the article. I was getting worried about the red link since it was there so long. As for vandals, I tend to wonder why anonymous editors are still allowed. I agree with you that most of the vandalism could be stopped by making people log in. I'm not so sure what principle is really involved in letting anonymous editors contribute - it doesn't seem so important to me that people can contribute without a name or email address. A lot of the vandal/administrator thing seems like cops and robbers game to me. See you around. --DannyWilde 14:26, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please have a look at my rewrite of the article. Best wishes. Durova 03:05, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You said they made it to the charts. Which charts would those be? - Mgm|(talk) 12:47, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the article says they made it on the Billboard charts, and http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/retrieve_chart_history.do?model.vnuArtistId=467150&model.vnuAlbumId=621415] This link to Billboard's web site lists their history on the charts. --Wingsandsword 15:22, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Maarek stele.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Matt 01:03, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nebuvite AfD

[edit]

Greetings! I had Nebuvite on my watchlist since I seconded the prod, so I saw that you had taken it to AfD. I've chimed in there. I also wanted to say thank you for staying diligent about keeping the AfD tag in place on the article and being firm but polite with the edit summaries. I just gave them the long-winded version of why deleting the tag doesn't help their cause on the talk page. Again, just wanted to pass on my compliments. —C.Fred (talk) 02:37, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fruit allergy

[edit]

Just so you know, when I got to the Fruit allergy article, it was no longer just a collection of links and therefore ineligible for the speedy deletion tag you'd placed on it. As it is now, it probably doesn't fill the criteria for any speedy deletion, and a proposed deletion would certainly be contested. You can put it up for vote at WP:AFD if you like, though. --Masamage 04:28, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the proposed deletion template from the article I just created... Hey there, you tagged this article under CSD G4: could you provide a link to the AfD debate? Thanks, - Zeibura (Talk) 21:12, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It was previously speedily deleted earlier today as an A7 non-notable biography (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ALog&type=delete&user=&page=Mickey+Smith%2C+Artist), and the creator of the original article recreated it eight minutes later with the same content. If A7 is more appropriate than G4 since it was speedied, then file it under that. --Wingsandsword 21:17, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:KiyojuteRyu-Tomoe.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:KiyojuteRyu-Tomoe.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 05:29, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just to bring it to your attention in case you haven't noticed, before nominating an article for speedy deletion, you should look at the a couple edits before the edit where you added the CSD tag to make sure it actually should be deleted. A single (or even many) edits where people are attacking the person doesn't mean it should be deleted, unless the whole article is an attack page. In the case of Scott Gomez a couple people attacked him, you should have reverted those edits...not nominated it for CSD. Again, just want to bring this to your attention in case you didn't realize what had happened. BsroiaadnTalk 03:16, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you remove my report at: [1]? -WarthogDemon 23:01, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't intend to remove anybody's report. I was reporting User:Macho36, there was an edit conflict, and I was trying to reload the page and cut & paste my vandalism report. My apologies if in my haste I accidentally removed your report. --Wingsandsword 23:03, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh okay, I was thinking that it was a mistake. Just wanted to make sure I didn't make an improper report or anything. :) In addition, I've made a bigger mistake there. One day there was little activity on that page and I made a typo in my report. I decided to revert, no harm right? I removed THREE reports that came suddenly and the page was a mess for about 10 minutes thereafter. :p Anyways, no harm done. Cheers and happy editing. :) -WarthogDemon 23:05, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have merged the Tush-ball article (which you have prod-ed) into the Tushball article, and redirected Tush-ball into Tushball. You may want to prod the Tushball article instead. I appreciate how you nominated the Tushball article for deletion. You spent the time to look for the supposed "reference" book on the internet, and you googled the term. I tend to be more of an inclusionist, and I hate how people nominate things without doing any research. Good job! Royalbroil 12:53, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Kiyojute Ryu Kempo

[edit]

An editor has nominated Kiyojute Ryu Kempo, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kiyojute Ryu Kempo and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 10:59, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:63rd Aviation Standard.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:63rd Aviation Standard.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the tag to the image's description. Hello Wingsandsword,

Kentucky Wikimedian User Group, an independent affiliate of Wikimedia Foundation, is being formed to provide outreach and assistance to individuals and organizations in Kentucky who want to create and improve Wikipedia content.

User groups are an easy way for Wikipedians to better organize in order to collaborate with other local Wikipedians or local institutions. The requirements for establishing and running them are quite simple. The main requirement is to have 3 people agree to join and share their contact information with Wikimedia Foundation.

As one of the most active Wikipedians from Kentucky, I would be pleased to have you be one of the founding members of the user group. To join the group, sign on meta here. Sydney Poore/FloNight♥♥♥♥ 21:32, 25 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

2019 US Banknote Contest

[edit]
US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here
