[edit]I would contest that he is the first mainland MP to sit for a NI party. What about Enoch Powell? Matthew Platts 22:31, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Enoch Powell was elected for a constituency in Northern Ireland. Nicke Lilltroll 00:00, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- You're absolutely right. I lost control of my senses... for some reason I thought he defected while he was in his Wolverhampton seat. Thanks for pointing that out. Matthew Platts 00:13, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- I presume by mainland, you are referring to Continental Europe. England's on an island. --MacRusgail 05:49, 24 March 2006 (UTC).
If the above user knows anything at all about Britain and definitions used in relation to Ulster, he would know that the island the Romans named Britannia is commonly referred to as the mainland, Ulster being a province of the UK on another island. I know of not one person who refers to Europe as the mainland. It is always called 'the Continent'. Sussexman 10:05, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
- Wasn't there a nationalist to sit for a mainland constituency in the first half of the C20th? Forget his name. --Counter-revolutionary (talk) 12:26, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
