Career and context

[edit]

Hi:

To avoid typecasting, Lancaster eventually decided to adopt a system for choosing scripts. One movie for the box office, then the next one for the art house crowd is I think a quote. This apparently was a compromise between an ambition for success and also to be taken seriously as an actor. A cite should be located before it goes in the article.

I also think his period with Frankenheimer could be expanded. They made four films together, almost in succession. Seven Days In May saw him playing an arch conservative general when he was in fact well known as a liberal. The commentary on the DVD does a lot to illuminate the tense politics of the period in America when the film was made.

I found a credit for that remark about one for the money and one for the ages: his father said it came from Norma.

Height

[edit]

Have corrected Lancaster's height to 6'1", which is what he was at his peak.

Mind Control (1987)

[edit]

I'm not certain that this is the name of the title. I have a title starring Lancaster in my video collection titled Control, made in the same year. I'm assuming they are one and the same, as coincidence is unlikely. However, US film and video game titles are often renamed, for whatever reason, and Australian releases tend to steer towards the European release title. Was Mind Control renamed as Control for the foreign market, or is the name of the film wrong on this article? Gamer Junkie 02:50, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have seen "Control"; it is about nucler war. More specifically, a nuclear scientist named Monroe antagonizes a woman whose organization builds nuclear-proof shelters by running an experiment that shows the shelters are useless; the people in them will be people and terrible things will happen. Ben Gazzara gets to state the message: there is no shelter from the bomb, even in a shelter. Burt preferred to act out his messages but I guess the producers decided to make it easy on audiences.

Filmography table

[edit]

I have reformatted the filmography, personally I think it is too long to be embedded, but I may be of the minority. If someone feels it should be removed to a page of its own, the awards data should be put back. I removed it as it felt redundant on top of that huge table. Here is the code for that:

Sexuality

[edit]

In this article, which is used as a source for Marlon Brando's page, it states that Lancaster is sexually linked to Brando. Does anyone have further info? 12.162.122.6 (talk) 14:48, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Immigrants?

[edit]

do you really think it's quite accurate to describe the normans arriving in england in 1066 and the years immediately thereafter as 'immigrants'? by that definition the germans arrived in paris in 1940 as 'immigrants. i don't think the saxons saw them as 'immigrants'.Toyokuni3 (talk) 06:53, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Other Affair

What about his affair with Shelly Winters? She mentions it in her book "Shelly, Also Known as Shirley". 70.136.142.237 (talk) 18:22, 5 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Shelley's account is hazy and came out long after the "events", plus publishers always pump air into autobiographies for the sake of sales. this is why books other than print versions of academic papers are not acceptable as evidence in courts of law.

An atheist or a protestant?

[edit]

The catagory's say that he was both protestant and atheist. This confuses me. An atheist is someone who does not believe in god, but a protestant is a christian. Being both atheist and protestant is impossible. How is someone who does not believe in god be able to be a protestant? 83.84.17.246 (talk) 19:17, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Number of producers

[edit]

The number of 'producers' in the first paragraph of the section "Directing and producing" needs to be reduced; at the moment, there are at least eight examples. Maybe this paragraph requires a complete re-write. It's not good.

Circus and military career

[edit]

The photo caption for Lancaster & Nick Cravat reads that they were part of the Federal Theatre Project circus; however, there is no mention of the Federal Theatre Project or its circus in this section's content. I have heard & read from various sources that Lancaster "got his start" in the Federal Theatre Project. BubbleDine (talk) 23:54, 25 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Allegations of child sexual abuse

[edit]

I just added this section and welcome any discussion/feedback. I reference an interview done a couple of years ago with Sara Mason. For what it's worth, I attended her show in 2015 and it was both horrifying and compelling. I have also reached out to her directly to find out if she has a source from a newspaper I can reference.Wealthistime (talk) 08:09, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Problem is that I can't find a single legitimate source backing up her claims. The only thing you find with a google search are promotional articles and reviews about her show, and even that is limited, but nothing else. No newspaper articles, nor on sites of CNN, NBC,... and the lot. Also Lancaster isn't able to confirm or refute it anymore so this might very well be a comercial gimmick by Mason. So without corraborating articles, it seems pretty fringe. After all the only source you gave is Mason herself, and a blog post. So without independent sources, this seems to be not according to wiki policy.-- fdewaele, 21 September 2019, 13:54 CET.

I appreciate your comment. My argument for the section remaining is that it is titled "Allegations of..." To you're point, there is no proof as to whether or not the allegation is actually true, but there is proof that Sara Mason did, in fact, make the allegation. And that's why I chose the title and verbiage of the section very carefully. People CAN verify that she made the allgeation. In fact, the blog article contains an interview with Mason where she is quoted directly stating that Lancaster was a paedophile. So in my opionion, there is sufficient searchable evidence that the "allegation was made", and that's why I believe it should be noted in the Wiki. However, I will see if I can find an additional source- perhaps I can contact Mason directly and find out. Wealthistime (talk) 06:53, 22 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Simply putting the proper title on it, doesn't make it verifiable. I looked for any other source than a blog and publicity for her comedy routine, could find zero. It reads as publicity and simply doesn't meet Wikipedia's standards. Contacting Mason wouldn't validate it further but rather put you as an editor in need of disclosing things. Please remove this content until you can establish veracity in established Wikipedia citation methods, its tabloid journalism not encyclopedic and doesn't belong until standards met. Jennablurrs7575 (talk) 22:03, 22 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I respectfully disagree. The blog contains an interview which DOES verify she made the allegation. I reviewed wikipedias guidelines and i dont see anything saying its directly prohibited. I agree blogs are not usually a good source, but they don't normally contain interviews either. I believe in this case its a sufficient source to verify she made the allegation. Also, i never said that attempting to contact Mason would validate anything, i merely said that perhaps i could try contacting her to see if she knows of additional sources (ie..if she did other interviews). Wealthistime (talk) 22:26, 22 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Your missing the point, any person can make an allegation, it doesn't mean it belongs on Wikipedia. In 4 years no other source but a blog has paid heed, not even lesser invalid citation style/sources that are still unacceptable by WP. Are you going to remove it? Letting it remain here GIVES it credence it didn't have before. You can put it back if you do the research and find a primary source outside of her allegation. That's the point of WP policy that you claim to have viewed but want to forgo in favor of your opinion that, hey there's no proof, but if I word it properly its okay to write it up? Respectfully, its just not, and needs to be removed until you do that work. Jennablurrs7575 (talk) 23:27, 22 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I agree completely, and the longer the allegation is made after the events, the more likely that the memory is altered in ways other than simply forgetting. what's more, there's such a thing as seeking attention.

1961

[edit]

You could write a section on this as "the best of times, the worst of times" because Lancaster's brother Jim died in January while working on Birdman; the Oscar nomination arrived in February and the award in April; and in September father Jim passed at age 70. https://normanwrites.wordpress.com/2021/12/04/burt-lancaster-birdman-of-alcatraz-elmer-gantry/ Jim (the brother) was born 1910 so he was 51; Burt's mother died at 53; brother William died I think just after 40; son Bill at nearly 50 and Bill's daughter Keigh at about 50. Sounds like there were inherited cardiovascular problems in the family. 100.15.117.34 (talk) 23:09, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
