NHL 08 Cover

[edit]

Why is it a xbox 360 cover? Just dont put any title for the game system, leave it blank you agree anyone?> —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.243.85.184 (talk) 21:28, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty sure that you can't create a team or player like advertised on the website while using a PS2, and theres no skill stick or goalie mode either. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.224.146.139 (talk) 20:30, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Some of these reviews and specs on the old NHL Hockey games by EA Sports are great but they leave out important factors. NHL 95 has totally different gameplay, it doesn't feel like any of the other games earlier in the series. Also, NHL 95 on the SNES was the only version you could create and trade players, PC version aside.

Overall, I think NHL 94 on the Sega CD is the best version of NHL 94 and it's one of the best hockey games to date, I don't feel that new hockey games like NHL 2004 have the same gameplay. Too much flash and glamor, too many buttons you never use... Pass, check and shoot is all you really need in a hockey game.

I agree. This page is extremely vague when it comes to the older (and better) versions of the game. I think that some of the earlier games (especially NHL 94) should warrant its own page.4.172.153.142 23:50, 11 December 2006 (UTC)-[reply]

-- You could create players on NHL 95 for the Genesis.

And I'm pretty darn sure it's John Davidson doing the commentary for the PSX version in 97

Redirection of NHL 2K6

[edit]

When looking for NHL 2K6, this article on the EA Sports NHL series appears. However, NHL 2K6 is the first NHL game published under the 2K Sports banner, and should not redirect to EA's series. It should be redirected to another site related to the 2K series.

Thanks. I've changed the redirect to point to 2K Games instead. Since there's only one game in that series so far (and no article on 2K Sports), that's probably the best place to point the redirect for the time being. --Idont Havaname (Talk) 03:22, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NHL Hockey 93 for the PC

[edit]

Just thought I'd say this article doesn't mention NHL Hockey for the PC (1993). It had a full season , one timers, and player creation all before the consoles had it (I think). I believe it was developed separately from the console versions.

http://www.abandonia.com/games/en/235/NHLHockey93.htm http://www.atarimagazines.com/compute/issue165/116_NHL_Hockey.php http://www.goodolddays.net/pc/n/nhl_/

How come there is no mention of the tricks? That was an important part of the nhl franchise? Triple deke and wraparound!

Jim Hughson: "What a sensational move, he dekes!"

Jim Hughson: "GREAT SAVE, (goaltender)!"

Jim Hughson: "He's got the puck on a string!"

Daryl Reaugh: "That wasn't goaltending, that was grand larceny."

Don Taylor: "He missed the net; man, that shouldn't even count as a shot!"
Jim Hughson: "It doesn't."
Don Taylor: "Oh. Good, then."

Don Taylor: "He brought the hammer down and nailed him!"
Jim Hughson: "I saw that carpentry analogy coming."

Don Taylor: "The goalie was in the basement, so he sent it upstairs." (referring to a shot that went into the top of the net)

Don Taylor: "Top shelf where you hide the cookies from the kids... sorry, kids."

Jim Hughson: "He missed! They're making the net smaller this year."

Jim Hughson: "Right upstairs, where Norman keeps his mother."

Don Taylor: "That hit made me lose my lunch! Sorry Jim, here's a towel."

Jim Hughson: "Belted and knocked down by (player name)!
Don Taylor: "He hit that guy so hard it made him see stars. I guess you could call it a 'constellation prize'".

Don Taylor: "Ahhh, I spilled hot coffee on my legs."
Jim Hughson: "Ahhh, Those are my legs!"
Don Taylor: "Oh yeah, sorry."

Jim Hughson: "(player name), wins the race and beats out the icing call."

Don Taylor: "That was save-tacular!"
Jim Hughson: "Do you ever run out of those?"
Don Taylor: "No-tacular!"

Don Taylor: "My Ouija board said that hit would happen. It also said my sofa would marry a goat."

Don Taylor: "He got off as much shot as two guys with half as much shot each!"

Jim Hughson: "(goaltender) THE SAVE?"

Wouldn't it be a good idea to put a link at the top of the page for people who ended up here when looking for the actual NHL. Several article titles, such as NHL 07, could just as well be about the real life hockey season, at least in the minds of people who aren't familiar with the video game market.... /85.194.44.18 20:50, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To be honest, I don't think anyone would call the 2006-07 NHL season or the 2007-08 NHL season "NHL 07" as that makes no sense. At least not in my mind. Bsroiaadn 02:55, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have NHL 2005 for Gamecube and I knoew this is to change the page, but in he shootouts it makes you be the goalie for your team and I don't know how to make save. Playable AHL

[edit]

There's a line under NHL 08 that says it is not known whether or not the AHL will be playable. This link:http://www.gamesarefun.com/news.php?newsid=7876 says that it is fully playable. Just thought I'd let you know, so I'll make the edit now...

Wii port of NHL 08?

[edit]

Just wondering about this. Under the information box for NHL 08, it says that EA Canada is developing PS3, Xbox360, and Wii versions, and that the Wii port release date is February 2008. It also lists the Wii as a platform, and the Wii remote and nunchuck as input devices.

Can someone please post a reference for this? I wish it were so (as a Wii owner and hockey fan), but I haven't seen anything on the internet to indicate that EA is working on a Wii port of NHL 08. If there is no evidence of a forthcoming Wii port, then the Wii should probably be removed from the list of platforms for this game.140.251.125.50 19:09, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Matt[reply]

Actually, according to this page [1], there will (tragically) be no Wii port of NHL 08. So I am removing information about it from the article, unless someone can produce any evidence that there will be a Wii port.140.251.125.50 20:20, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Matt[reply]

NHL 2k9 will be coming out for the Wii.Asatruar (talk) 05:17, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

EA Hockey relegated to European only release status?

[edit]

EA Hockey was released in North America long before Europe, as well it was the first game in this series. Whomever is writing this series article seriously needs to check out the reality of the series.

EA Hockey was first, NHL Hockey came afterwards. Do you even play these games? Inferior EA Hockey gameplay compared to NHL Hockey makes this quite evident.

1. EA Hockey was released in North America. 2. EA Hockey was first introduced to North America. 3. EA Hockey was Electronic Art`s first hockey game. 4. NHL Hockey was released after EA hockey`s first quarter '91 release. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.48.153.94 (talk) 21:09, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I changed the review scores to a table format. Normally the template I used floats to the right, but when I put it in, it was being floated to the left of the game infobox, which looked kinda ugly. So I aligned it left and used a {{clear}} to make sure the next section started on a new line below the table. If the reviews and awards subsection gets more info in the future, I'm thinking the box could be moved back to the default right side.--Rockfang (talk) 07:01, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Split

[edit]

Does anyone else think it should be split? FIFA and Madden get their own, why not NHL? Can't even include the soundtracks anywhere here, either. FogDevil 00:13, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's true. It's a little unfair to keep the games with little info. Maybe bring it up to an Wikiproject Ice hockey admin to see if these points are good enough to split the games in their own article. Especially when we need an infobox on the games too. The article will never be a good article if it keeps this same thing going. --Hasek is the best (talk) 02:11, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeh, would be a good idea, especially because this page limits hogw much information each game is going to have and like Hasek said we need infoboxes for the games. Salavat (talk) 02:17, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think this article is part of that project. But if anyone wants to split them up with me, let me know! FogDevil 18:30, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's definately part of the project. Note the banner above. I don't have a problem with splitting it, though I don't really see a need to split it either. -Djsasso (talk) 18:53, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok everybody, I've already started to split up the article, because it's way too long, and because as FogDevil said, it's not fair when FIFA and Madden all have their own articles and NHL only has this long heck of an article. Any help would be appreciated. :) JoshuaKuo (talk) 02:08, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've helped a lot, I'm making articles for each individual game and made a separate template for the series :D I just hope everyone thinks it's a good idea to do the who More information: thing with no info. In my opinion we are better off like that. --Hasek is the best (talk) 04:26, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

NHL 09 for Wii?

[edit]

According to the table EA Sports NHL 09 will also be for the Wii, but according to NHL 09's official page, there is no official announcement. Can someone give a reference to an OFFICIAL statement? Weather82004 (talk) 16:39, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is not coming out on Wii. FogDevil 17:02, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think it is still up for grabs as to wheather it is or not. But NHL 2k9 will be coming out for Wii.Asatruar (talk) 05:16, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Added "Windows version controversy" section

[edit]

I added this particular section based on what I've been reading in EA's official NHL PC forums, seen here: http://forums.ea.com/mboards/forum.jspa?forumID=4096

Any input is appreciated, but a lot of the facts are missing regarding why EA decided not to improve the Windows version alongside the "next-gen" console versions. However, I think there's a fair amount of Windows fans who have been paying for the Windows version for the last few years and being disappointed, which is why I added the section. The Dopefish (talk) 05:00, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am JasCarver9 on the EA Forums. I have noticed that the article includes complaints about the graphics from the game. It would be nice if a reference was put into that article to back its facts up.

As for the graphics of PC I am still awaiting the final word from the community manager to get real screen shots. JasonHockeyGuy (talk) 21:30, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think the section should be deleted entirely. Basically theres no sources and its based on furom threads (same idea as the yellow light of death on the ps 3 page). I could go on a bit but thats just my impression Ottawa4ever (talk) 17:11, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Don't know if this is noteworthy, but NHL10 is the first version since NHLPA 93 ("NHL Hockey") that is not playable on a PC (DOS/Windows). I'll leave it to someone else to decide if it should be added or not.194.100.53.62 (talk) 15:06, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Annual predictions

Does anyone have a list of these simmed "annual predictions" of the season that EA puts out every year? They're always wrong, but we could include them? 209.105.207.74 (talk) 18:50, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cover athletes cleanup

[edit]

OK, while consolidating the tables, I've removed all the unsourced "Europe edition" covers, since a lot of them seem like vandalism from IP's. I'd be happy if you could re-add them, if you have a reliable source. Specifically, here's what I deleted.

Title Player (Europe Edition)
NHL 2000 Markus Näslund (Vancouver) in Nordic countries
NHL 2001 Jere Lehtinen (Dallas) in Nordic countries, Pavel Bure (Florida) in Russia, Martin Ručinský (Montreal) in the Czech Republic
NHL 2002 -
NHL 2003 Saku Koivu (Montreal) in Finland, Patrik Eliáš (New Jersey) in the Czech Republic
NHL 2004 -
NHL 2005 Olli Jokinen (Florida) in Finland
NHL 06 Tuomo Ruutu (Chicago) in Finland
NHL 07 Henrik Lundqvist (New York Rangers) in Sweden, Teemu Selänne (Anaheim) in Finland
NHL 08 [[Henrik Zetterberg]] (Detroit) in Sweden, Teemu Selänne (Anaheim) in Finland, Jaromír Jágr (New York Rangers) in the Czech Republic & Slovakia, Mark Streit (Montreal) in Switzerland

Here are some sources I found, I'm too lazy to parse through the links; just copy and paste into google.

The goaltender on the original NHL Hockey Cover was not Kelly Hrudey. Hrudey wore the old Jofa helmet and mask combination, never the CCM "Butterfly" mask. While its difficult to tell seeing as EA edited out the numbers from the players on the cover, the goaltender in the picture is most likely Mario Gosselin from the 1989-90 season. http://www.tradingcarddb.com/GalleryP.cfm/pid/14757/Mario-Gosselin?PageIndex=2 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brockleigh (talkcontribs) 05:00, 11 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
