Franco-Provençal language not classified as oïl language. -- Man vyi 13:19, Sep 28, 2004 (UTC)

According to [1] it is. --yan! | Talk 12:53, Sep 29, 2004 (UTC)
According to Franco-Provençal speakers, according to the French government, and according to Franco-Provençal language article, it isn't. And since the Ethnologue info is so clearly inadequate on the oïl languages, one can hardly place much reliance on it in the face of all the other information. And why is this page necessary at all since we already have a page on the oïl languages which lists them - and which includes accurate information? Man vyi 15:29, Sep 29, 2004 (UTC)
The Ethnologue has in-depth information on every language spoken in the world. Are you suggesting that the project just decided to be sloppy with the Oïl languages? Could you provide some links to back up your statements? --yan! | Talk 02:42, Sep 30, 2004 (UTC)
The language site of the French Ministry of Culture for a start. Whether a site like Ethnologue with no official standing in French language policy decided to be sloppy or not, I couldn't say. The fact is the information is inadequate regarding the oïl languages. Have copied list over from langue d'oïl so that, until someone merges it, this page actually contains a list of the languages it purports to list. Man vyi 21:32, Oct 3, 2004 (UTC)
Thanks. Many of those that you have listed are probably dialects, but they probably belong on this page anyway. --yan! | Talk 00:35, Oct 4, 2004 (UTC)

Proposed move

[edit]

It has been proposed that Languages of Oïl be renamed and moved to Langues d'Oïl. Comments and votes on Talk:Languages of Oïl, please, if you're interested. Man vyi 09:08, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why?

[edit]

Why does this page exist? The main article Langues d'oïl isn't that long and it already includes a more detailed family tree. It helpfully directs to this page, suggesting that there is "Further information" here. Will this ever be true? The two lists definitely need to be merged before they become completely contradictory. The question is, here or there? CapnPrep 00:37, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
