[edit]

There is a group for Buzkashi photos on Flickr.com. If anyone is interested, s/he may consider copying some of those images to Wiki Commons (having obtained the appropriate permission from the owner, of course), and maybe creating a category on Wiki Commons as well. Persian-speaking

[edit]

I think the writer must mean Iranian-speaking. I am not conversant enough to know the correct term, but I do know that Persian is a dead language (Farsi is its modern descendant) and Central Asia has distantly related languages of the Indo-Iranian subfamily of Indo-European. Historical Section

[edit]

This article needs a history section to explain the origins of the game. Quantumelfmage (talk) 23:11, 2 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the origins go back to the earliest Turks who had observed how the alpha male in a pack of wolves fighting over a carcass would inevitably run off with the prize and manage to keep the other wolves away. The alpha-male wolf was called the celestial wolf or Gokbaru in ancient Turkic. The competition was imitated by the Turks in the selection of their Kaghans.Kaz 15:31, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

Unreverted Anonymous vandalism

[edit]

At 19:39, on 17 April 2012‎ an anonymous editor 142.30.120.202 vandalised the article removing the introduction http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Buzkashi&diff=487884362&oldid=487795744 to make it seem like Afghans invented the game but no one did anything about it. A lot has been built up in the article since that time which is useful and needs to be kept, but the POV bias which the article has taken as a result of removal of the original introduction needs to be reverted and the neutrality of the article restored. If there are no objections I will do this myself. Kaz 15:31, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

I think that better footnoting and sourcing would also help. I have the article watchlisted, but have no real knowledge of the sport, so I'd say if you can keep it to NPOV and all the usual WP:V and WP:RS stuff, I'll be happy. Montanabw(talk) 19:06, 23 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I concur. Kaz 07:48, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

Translation of Buzkashi

[edit]

I don't know who Ted Ral is but he has no idea of the language buzkashi does not mean goat bashing but dragging or pulling, that's what they players are doing trying to get the goat and drag or pull it to the center. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.176.16.211 (talk) 03:38, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The page was visible online and Ted Rall's book really did contain this, and also gave the language as Turkic, but other sources don't agree with either. I've changed the statement and its source, and also made some other changes to the order, section divisions and image placement, which I hope are OK with other contributors: Noyster (talk), 16:08, 15 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Banned or not during Taliban?

[edit]

In the introduction, the text says: "although it was not banned, it certainly experienced a sharp decline due to reduced number of playing horses under the Taliban regime." In the third paragraph the text says the game was in fact banned and two sources are quoted, both of which say so and are acceptable press sources. But they might be of course be mistaken (the banning is mentioned in passing, not specifically detailed). But both informations cannot be kept. The one in the introduction is unsourced, but if anybody has a source about it, we should debate and keep the correct information only. Ilyacadiz (talk) 21:05, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
