Edit to lead required I think
[edit]The lead contains the following text:
"After more than a decade of denials, he confessed to thirty murders committed in seven states between 1974 and 1978. His true victim total is unknown, with Bundy being linked to a disappearance which occurred during his teenaged years."
It is clear from this article and everything else generally written about Bundy that the number of people he murdered is greater than the thirty murders he confessed to. Estimates vary wildly based on FBI intelligence and Bundy's own assertions. This article discusses what is known about the true number of victims in detail: one thing is generally agreed upon - the total is in excess of 30 and in excess of 31.
With that in mind, the text I have quoted from the lead does not make sense and is misleading. Writing that the true total is unknown, followed by mention of a Bundy link to one single specific case, implies that the known total of 30 (which he confessed to) might be 31.
Several other murders that Bundy has been linked to are discussed in the article, therefore it makes no sense to pick out and mention just one of those in the lead.
Instead this section should simply say that the true total is unknown, and leave the rest to the body of the article. Or alternatively it could state that the true total is unknown, and mention the FBI's speculated total or give the speculated range of the total number of victims (at least within the bounds of the most reliable sources).
The important thing that the lead needs to get across is that he confessed to 30 murders, but the total number is assumed (by credible sources) to be higher/much higher/substantially higher - something along those lines, but of course avoiding sensationalism or glorification.
Just a minor point when I look at the text I quoted: I think 'teenaged years' should read 'teenage years'. Certainly in British English the latter is correct. Flusapochterasumesch (talk) 18:00, 10 August 2024 (UTC)
- I removed the teenage years bit and adjusted those beginning sentences. What seemed important to me is that the actual/total number of people that Bundy murdered remains unknown...maybe 36, maybe 100. Shearonink (talk) 01:05, 11 August 2024 (UTC)

I would like to edit that Ted Bundy is not just a rapist but a child rapist in the main description. 2601:80:C681:1050:1CD6:C6D2:2076:5540 (talk) 20:44, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
- "kidnapped, raped, and murdered dozens of young women and girls" covers all that. Singling out child rape does a disservice to the other women he killed. Acroterion (talk) 20:49, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
The 2019 movie Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile should be added.

Please change the age of a victim: Roberta Kathleen Parks was 20, not 22 when murdered 2601:681:4B00:25A0:8961:6A2B:2E55:1F43 (talk) 03:07, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
