Moved from the article: There need to be some Disambiguating here differentiating the Ace of Spades as the Death Card vs. the Tarot Death Card. Some history of the Ace of Spades as the Death Card would be helpful as well.

Also, I plan to move this page to Death (Tarot card) for consistancy and to aid disambiguation. This will help with the above concern. - UtherSRG 03:26, 21 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Article is now at Death (Tarot card), and the Ace of spades article covers what was here much more thoroughly, so I got rid of the Ace of Spades content. --168.12.253.82 18:51, 23 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Is the part about the beltway sniper really necessary here? That should be covered under his own entry, and I would propose putting it at the end of this article, at least... Airosche 03:01, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting point. I am hesitant to remove content that was there when I got here. hm. Now that I think of it, moving it to the end does make sense; putting it front and center does make it look more important to the article than it really is. Good thought. I'll take care of it. Yeah that definitely improves it quite a bit.  :) Description and interpretation should definitely come before little bits of trivia. Thanks. Airosche 16:45, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Must Buffy be mentioned in almost any article dealing with Tarot cards? I am guessing that a die-hard-vampire-slayer fan is creating the pages for the whole deck of cards... ha, ha, ha! 81.203.141.80 00:06, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I know, it is a massive problem with the Major Arcana pages. Like in all the other articles I have removed the "Examples" section since it was entirely Original Research which Wikipedia does not allow. I left the "mythopoeteic interpretation" section because that may have come from a reputable source but it seems to be something based on personal interpretation like the "Examples" section. - DNewhall — Preceding undated comment added 17:52, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If my memory serves, in the Tarot de Marseilles and its derivatives, this card is left untitled, giving it the nickname "L'arcane sans nom." It seems like that should be in there somewhere. 70.249.70.28 (talk) 10:48, 1 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Unverifiable and unbalanced content

[edit]

The article is just personal opinions from occult enthusiasts about the nature and meaning of a particular tarot card. No peer reviewed books or journal articles are cited. No references or footnotes are given. When a new statement is added, the source needs to be cited, and the source needs to be verifiable, and reliable. The sources listed are largely just in reference to death in general and not to the history or evolution of the card. Waite is not a reliable source on the history or development of tarot cards. His opinion can be cited however. For instance: "Waite's opinion, in his book Pictorial Key to the Tarot is that... etc."

The card in question has a history of over 500 years in European card games in which it is used as trump card (see Tarocchi). The article is unbalanced in that it only features the recent uses of the card for divination. This makes the article biased due to its recentism. Since the article ignores use of the card for game play in Europe and other parts of the world, it offers an anglo-american perspective that raises NPOV issues. There are academic sources and sources from international organizations discussing the history and evolution of the "Death" card as well as its use in games. These need to be utilized. - Parsa 06:02, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

this is just a hunch, but death is number 13, and people find the number 13 bad luck, as in friday 13 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.131.97.206 (talk) 21:43, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is my understanding that the superstitious fear of the number 13 occurs no earlier than the 19th century so it would be unrelated to the original tarot.Smiloid (talk) 08:28, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Verbose and Unclear Content

[edit]

Why is there discussion of the card's interpretation in the Description section if there is an entire section later on devoted to interpretation?

Speaking of the Interpretation section ... it is filled with unreferenced non-sentences with obscure, cryptic references. Is there anyone who has a verifiable (that is, referenced) knowledge of modern (or pre-modern) Tarot interpretation who'd care to have a go at this? Please?

With all that said, apart from the Interpretation section, which needs a major rewrite, it seems that the page has been brought up to spec on style, so can we remove the copy-edit tag? If nobody has any objections, I'll take it down in a week.

Checked over the article, and I can't find any issues pertaining to writing style. Tag removed, although there's still other potential issues with the article. --Sigma 7 (talk) 14:43, 4 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Move discussion in progress

[edit]

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:The Fool (Tarot card) which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 13:32, 11 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
