Jamaican Chant

[edit]

Somebody te testimonia hey jumbo jumbo, when the party always go, woh jambala, somebody te testimonia hey jumbo jumbo...

sounds more African than Jamaican. i'd know. Drmagic 00:01, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

According to belief.net the song is about a celebration of Kwanzaa. Anyone else heard that?BriarPatchWabbit 21:01, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Quoted from www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/l/lionel_richie/all_night_long.html (site blacklisted) Mr.Z-man 23:34, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Tam bo li de say de moi ya, Hey Jambo Jumbo. Way to parti o we goin', Oh, jambali. Tam bo li de say de moi ya, Yeah, Jambo, jumbo"

The only reference I can find about these lyrics that don't claim they are Swahili (it's not, Swahili makes use of affixes in a way that forms longer words, and commonly has consonant and vowel clusters), is on allexperts.com, which claims that it's made-up. While this isn't a credible source, it seems to make the most sense -- "tam bo li de say de moi ya" looks very much like a creole or pidgin language, or something that would be produced by Richie to make it sound vaguely African (or Caribbean) to English ears. I'm going to remove the reference to the Jamaican chant because I can't find any references to this. PatrickNiedzielski (talk) 18:36, 17 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I just read a source who claims they are actually the Swahili words "Jambo nipe senti umoja" - Hi, give me one cent. This sounds authentic to me, despite Lionel Richie maintaining they are gibberish. 71.246.146.140 (talk) 11:59, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Motivation for video game testers?

[edit]

Does anyone have any sources for this claim? I wouldn't be surprised if it's true, however. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.242.18.80 (talk) 13:15, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sence?

[edit]

"According to an episode of Reading Rainbow in which Richie guest-starred, the song's theme is about a party that lasts all night long." - - - - Unbelievable :-) 195.145.245.81 (talk) 06:27, 26 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Music video

[edit]

Could be more about the music video. It's a compendium of the dance styles which are made fun of on "Dancing with the Stars" (the robot, the worm etc.), and it was parodied in a Simpsons episode... AnonMoos (talk) 02:18, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Genre Reggae?

[edit]

From the source it seems like this is not reggae. How can we test that this is or is not reggae?
