Bias, Anyone?

[edit]

"Although, May-Treanor and Walsh deserved to be the #1 seeded team" sounds biased to me... [[1]]--Airplaneman (talk) 23:09, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Height

[edit]

Some websites state that she's 6 feet, 2 inches tall rather than 6 feet, 3 inches. Which is correct? Badagnani (talk) 01:36, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think her correct height is 6'2 ½. Smuckers It has to be good 03:52, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Website

[edit]

The external link to her official website goes nowhere. I heard she was remodeling it. But that was back during the games and now it is too long!Jasper Deng (talk) 02:21, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

kerri walsh is 6 feet 3 inches tall and yes that is correct!!! her partner for vollyball is misty may. she is married to Casey jennings and is pregnet! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.135.217.232 (talk) 00:45, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I couldn't figure out how to make the edit myself, but the title of Reference #1 should not include the phrase "She has an eating disorder." This is nowhere in the linked reference and is inappropriate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.171.31.93 (talk) 13:15, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Good catch, fixed.--SPhilbrickT 15:22, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Santa Clara/Carla

[edit]

Slight disagreement between the two following:

Place of birth Santa Clara, CA, USA Home town Santa Carla, CA, USA

The first being a real place, and the second being what I believe to be the fictional town from the movie "Lost Boys".

I moved these personal details as uncited, please cite and replace, thanks

Personal life

[edit]

She is the daughter of Tim and Margie Walsh. Walsh's father, who is six feet, eight inches in height, played minor league baseball with the Oakland A's organization, as well as semi-pro basketball. Her mother was a volleyball MVP at Santa Clara University. Walsh has a brother, Marte, and two sisters, Kelli and KC.

She married Casey Jennings in 2005. In 2009, Walsh gave birth to baby boy named Joseph Michael. Three days before his first birthday, she gave birth to another baby boy named Jordan Thomas.

It's her legal name, she's using it in competition, it's what they're calling her on TV...seems pretty straightforward. I'll move in a day or two if there are no objections. Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 18:08, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, needs to be done. Courcelles 00:47, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I also have no objections to the move, as Kerri Walsh-Jennings is her more common name. Darth Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 01:03, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hypen or no hyphen? News reports show it both ways. Her Facebook and Twitter accounts use Kerri Walsh without Jennings. 72Dino (talk) 01:10, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like no hyphen, actually. Good catch. I don't know anything about facebook or twitter, might those accounts have existed before her marriage? Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 03:49, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. Majority of sources I've searched show no hyphen. Also I'm going to be WP:BOLD and move it. Gateman1997 (talk) 05:30, 8 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Seems I can't move it. The button isn't there. Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 17:50, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Formatting error on the underlying website maybe? Second one I've seen today. Gateman1997 (talk) 05:32, 8 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like the page was move protected shortly after the Beijing Olympics. Surely that's no longer necessary? I'll continue to look into this. Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 00:17, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move

The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the proposal was move per request after being forced to do my own research to corroborate the assertion of use that not one person backed with evidence. Please provide evidence on requested moves.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 05:47, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Kerri WalshKerri Walsh Jennings – Per discussion above. I think this could potentially be contentious (it's at least possible to argue that the current title is her WP:COMMONNAME, though I would disagree) so we'll go this road. It looks like the page was move protected four years ago and that protection was never rescinded. Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 00:20, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support move it's the name she competes under & is well known by in significant reliable sources. This can & should remain as a redirect StarM 01:49, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • DO NOT MOVE or RENAME. During much of her career she is known by her maiden (unmarried) name Kerri Walsh and is still sometimes called that. A move/rename will also require unnecessary editing of several other pages that link here, in order to get past the disambig page per Wikipedia guidelines. Instead of a rename/move, let's just create a REDIRECT page from Kerry Walsh Jennings to this page. Truthanado (talk) 02:06, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • note, that's not an insurmountable amount of work, and a bot could be deployed. It's not a reason not to move . As for women who marry or divorce (and resulting name changes): Misty May Treanor, Sanya Richards Ross, Candace Parker, among others. Both names covered in reliable sources and both can be sourced StarM 02:45, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • Bot, nothing. There are fewer than 200 inbound links to this article (and not all of them from the mainspace). It wouldn't take but maybe an hour to "fix" that by hand (scare quotes around fix because WP:NOTBROKEN). Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 03:40, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • And consider that the general practice with people who change names (for marriage or whatever reason) is to use the name under which they were known at the time (i.e. the USA 2008 Olympics article would not and should not be edited to "Walsh Jennings" just as the 2004 article has not and should be edited to "May-Treanor" for her partner, since she did not compete under that name at the time). So only a few articles would really need changing the (those since she changed names). Green-eyed girl (Talk · Contribs) 04:56, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose - Same logic and rationale as Truthanado. Redirect is sufficient. We look at things from a "big picture" point of view, not just "recent" events. --Education does not equal common sense. 我不在乎 20:03, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

sand split? sand spit? or what?

[edit]

Hi Alicia,

In this version of the article, your edit appears to have a typo. I don't think there's such a thing as a "sand split" (except this one), so I suspect that

"Walsh trained on the sand split between Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach in Los Angeles, California, and..."

was intended to be:

"Walsh trained on the sand spit between Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach in Los Angeles, California, and..."

Am I right? Is that what you meant?

spit. n. A narrow point of land extending into a body of water.

The only problem is that when I look at the beach in Google Earth, there's no spit there. So I'm confused. What did you mean? NCdave (talk) 02:36, 9 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the word "split" was a typo. I did not add it to the article. At the time in question I was doing a little re-write and I did not check carefully to see if the earlier writing had errors. In the edit you reference I just moved down previous content to a lower position on the page. The word was actually added to the article with this edit by IP editor 66.27.161.134 back in May 2012. I am sorry to say I do not know the area in question well, so I could not tell you if there is a spit between those beaches or not, nor do I have sourcing for the claim that she trained there. Maybe the author just meant a sandy area inbetween the two main beaches? Sorry it has taken me so long to respond! Thanks for helping to improve the page!! Suggestions: Introduction and More

[edit]

Hi, I enjoyed reading this Wikipedia page on Kerri Walsh Jennings but had a few recommendations about the introduction and more. I feel like the first line of a Wikipedia page about an athlete should fully encase their success and abilities, and the first sentence of Walsh Jennings' Wikipedia page is very lackluster. Although being a professional American beach volleyball player is amazing in and of itself, I think it would also be important to mention in the first line that she is a three time Olympic Gold Medalist. I realize this is mentioned later on, but I also think it is important to put in the first sentence because when someone is looking her up, that is one of the first things they should know. I also noticed that no where did it mention that she is currently the career leader, ranked number one that is, in both career victories (133) and in career winnings (2,542,635), in the Beach Volleyball Database. [1] I think this is significant and current information that people would enjoy knowing about Walsh Jennings. This information would even fit well in the introduction and make it even more interesting. These are just a few suggestions I have for this already great page. Thanks. --JacquelynSkoch (talk) 22:14, 1 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
