Hello, I'm Parelle, and although I've wandered here before, I've stopped to peer deeper. I'm a diplomatic history major in college, and an avid reader. I've dabbled in web work, violin, and chess, among other things. I hope to be a part of this community for some time to come! Parelle 08:16, 18 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Hi, I'm Rachel. Jiawen is my Mandarin name and my user name. I have lots of interests, primarily in three main areas: East Asia, gender studies and science fiction. I've been adding to Wikipedia anonymously for quite a while -- hadn't realized how easy it is to register. Check my homepage at http://www.jiawen.net if you'd like to know more about me. Greetings and salutations. Lauri Love lives in the UK and cowers behind the moniker 'nsh'. He is a scholar, philosopher, scientist and humanist, but none for particularily long, or too well. His interests are too esoterically ecletic to list but curricular studies are mathematics, physics and philosophy. He hopes contribute to a valuable and wonderful resource, while not alienating too many people with his strange tendancy to refer to himself in the third person. nsh 04:02, 19 Feb 2004 (GMT :-)

Hello, my name is Matthew Hammer, and I am an undergraduate CS student from Madison, Wisconsin. I think Wikipedia is a wonderful project and as a regular user, I hope to contribute when I can. Hammer 08:30, 19 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Howdy! I'm Skylark, I'm a Junior Mechanical Engineering Major and I'm the Proudest Member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of 2005. (The previous is the standard introduction speech at Texas A&M University) Long time reader and big fan of Wikipedia, but never really posted before. This semester I shall have to take a large number from my textbooks. For improved legibility, I thought I could type them up. This thought process led me to try writing my notes as wikipedia articles. Interests: Space exploration, Physics, classic S.F., hats, materials engineering, computers, other. Hi Everyone. My name is Dolly Simmons. I am a web developer from Seattle WA. I've been in the business professionally for about five years now. Other than that, I'm pretty boring. This is my first time playing with WIKI. I had heard the term previously, but had no idea it could be as much fun as it is. I figured Wikipedia was a good place to try it out. This is fun. Thanks everyone! (note: the previous was written by Dollyd, who didn't sign)

Hi Wikipedians, My name is Ryan Boykin. I discovered Wikipedia a while back at school I've used it for a while now and I decided a few days back to get more involved. I am only 16 but I am rather fluent and intrested in science and technology. I am going to try and work on any articles I feel I may be of value on. Theyapps 02:18, Feb 20, 2004 (UTC)

Hey Everybody. My name is John and I'm currently a high school student. I've been using Wiki for a while and have decided to start contributing. My areas of interest are primarily Physics (GR and gauge theory) and Mathematics (currently differential geometry). I'm trying to help out with whatever pages I can because writing them helps me to learn as much as it helps others in the community. I'm glad to be a part of Wikipedia. Jcobb Feb 20, 2004

Hiya, My names Sophie and I've just found out about Wikipedia from a friend. I would like to contrabute to the site because I think it'll be good to share knowledge. My interests are mainly history which I'm studying at school and I especially like the Romans and Celts. I think that this website is really good in helping people to share their knowledge.

Hello everyone. My name is Tim and I'm a forensic document examiner in Toronto. I studied biology, earth sciences and chemistry in university, but I've got a wide variety of geeky knowledge that I hope to contribute. I'm a bit of a jack of all trades... I've created a few pages already, and I've revised a lot more. I love the idea of free knowledge, and Wikipedia makes this a reality for me. TimothyPilgrim 20:20, Feb 20, 2004 (UTC)

Howdy from Alaska. My name is Brett but I'm also known as Red Goat Jackson in Cowboy Action Shooting circles. I'm retired from the U.S. Air Force where I specialized in avionic sensors (infrared imaging and laser target designation) and later, healthcare administration. I currently work for the Federal Aviation Administration. I've had many wide-ranging hobbies and interests over the years. The most recent or notable include: science and technology, flyfishing and flytying, leatherworking, and in addition to the aforementioned CAS, other areas related to shooting and firearms. I learned of Wikipedia from a link posted on the Bad Astronomy bulletin board and look forward to doing much reading and making occasional contributions.

Hi all. My name is R. Luke DuBois. I teach computer music and audio/video performance in New York City. I'm currently in the process of doing curriculum development for a college-level course on the history of electronic and computer music to be taught in the Fall at Columbia University. Our plan is to use a Wiki for much of the course discussion, and so I figured that many of the course resources (biographies, definitions of terms, etc.) could live on wikipedia where everyone can contribute.

Ay up. My name's Helen (user Helenmarie). I'm new to this Wiki world - but my Wikiholic sister talks of nowt else - so I thought I'd see what all the fuss was about. I'm not sure I have a specialist area to enable me to edit pages or contribute my own. I have a psychology degree though - so I can waffle well on most subject areas.

Hi everybody. My name's Matthew, I live in Prague now. A 200 000 articles celebration note on some www pages brought me here recently and immediately caught me up! And now I'm finding that I tend to spend more and more time browsing through this Wiki ocean (and I also find that I'm starting to carry my camera everywhere around Prague just to spot good conditions for taking perfect pictures to conribute...) I love the idea of shared knowledge revisable by anybody! I already added a few articles and what I like the most is the principle of being forced to learn a lot of new things about a topic to be able to cover it for Wiki reasonably. Among my interests are: climatology and meteorology, computers in general, psychotherapy and related areas and of course I'll have to cover the huge gaps in the Czech topics as much as possible :). As I'm not a native English speaker, I (and other readers even more, I believe!) will certainly appreciate your tweaking of some ugly-looking sentences, that may, time to time, appear in my text (such as this one ;)). Happy Wikifying!

Hello everyone. My name is Arun, and I live in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania (near Philadelphia), but have in the past, lived in Cambridge,Massachusetts; Salmiya, Kuwait; and New Jersey. I'm a Computer Science masters student, was an Economics undergraduate, and have a wide variety of other interests including history, politics, and India. I've enjoyed reading wikipedia articles, and plan on contributing where I can.

Hi! My name is Ge Wang (user name: gewang). I am studying computer music as a CS PhD student in Princeton University. I just stumbled unto wikipedia after a friend and I heard about it. I hope to contribute!

Hello everyone. I have been contributing for a couple of weeks before stumbling onto this page. I found out about the Wikipedia through a newspaper, and enjoyed the articles I looked at. I live in Perth, Western Australia and have just begun a Bachelor of Nursing. My name is Robert McFaul.

Mcfaulr 05:46, 22 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Greg Lee, a linguist at the U. Hawaii. I noticed that my web browser has a Wikipedia search engine. Made me curious. I corrected some typos on the "linguistics" main page.

Charlie Nolan, a Mathematics/CS major at the U. of Nebraska - Lincoln. I found Wikipedia while running a Google search to figure out a concept for my mathematics homework, Spectral decomposition, I believe. Have made a few minor edits and just posted my first article at Pierce's Law.

Robin Patterson, proud New Zealander, editor/proofreader with Brookers, a local branch of The Thomson Corporation; found Wikipedia on www.zeal.com, which is still my main computer hobby apart from games by Sid Meier. Something of a specialist in NZ local government but interested in far too many things to list here. See mini-bio (username robinp) on Zeal.

Don Hulbert, flutist, chamber musician and software idiot savant -- i.e., I'm good at using computers without having much idea how they really work. I found Wikipedia while searching for recordings on CD of one of my inspirations, flutist Elaine Shaffer. The entry was so bare bones, and I am a true fan, that I added the pieces of her life that I know about. I'm afraid it wasn't exactly rigorously researched, I shall have to look at my sources and make corrections. Feel free to correct any inaccuracies! I welcome all new users and I wish them to have a nice time here on Wikipedia and peace profound in their lives. Optim 00:30, 23 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Eric Harris-Braun, software developer. Found Wikipedia through a web search. I've been interested in self-organizing web communities for a long time. Among other things, I run http://www.onlinewritingworkshop.com which is a web community devoted to giving aspiring authors a place to develop their skills. I grew up in Ecuador, so I added in local holidays and a short article on Pichincha.

Hi, my name is Mugizi Rwebangira(username Rweba). I am a CS PhD student in Pittburgh, Pennsylvania. I heard about Wikipedia when it kept turning up on my google searches for technical terms. I hope to contribute to articles on computer science, discrete math and Africa.

An editable encyclopedia? A very interesting concept. My edits so far consist mostly of correcting typos or formatting or adding some tidbits here and there. I've also created links for anything I might like to click on. I like the way wikipedia allows me to learn. --Rj 08:32, Feb 23, 2004 (UTC)

Hello all, my name is Carlo Ierna and I am a student of Philosophy (especially Husserl) and Artificial Intelligence. I have run into the Wikipedia quite often while surfing and decided that the time was come to see if I could contribute something useful. I speak German, Italian and Dutch as good as natively, so I suppose I could help out with some translations. For instance, I noticed that the German page on Husserl contains a lot more information than the English one so I'll be heading over there shortly ... Cat 13:14, 23 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Hi, I'm a neurosci grad student at UCSF. I never really intended to be an active contributor, but I often use the Wikipedia for reference and find browsing a wonderful time wasting device. Over time I found myself unable to resist the urge to add tidbits here and there, so I decided to create a username: Chinasaur. I could probably contribute to Neuroscience articles, especially visual science. I also have a lot of interest in Classical music, Classical lit, and Russian lit, especially Sergei Prokofiev, Bela Bartok, Nikolai Gogol, and Ivan Turgenev. --Chinasaur 07:27, Feb 24, 2004 (UTC)

After a few minor edits I've decided to just dive right in. My main vocations at this time are Communications Technologist and Photographer. I'm a bit of a Renaissance Man, so my interests are fairly diverse. I have an interest in adding pictures, so will probably work on that initially. dzim 13:55, 24 Feb 2004 (UTC)

I'm a neuroscience grad student at Stanford. I'm interested in physics, electrical engineering, and learning and memory (in particular, motor learning involving the cerebellum). I work with transgenic animals and do physiology. My goal is to find ways to cure mental illness. Cyberied 08:27, 25 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Hi, call me Revth. It's a shortened HN from a website that I make a regular contribution to and from there I came. Probably going to be hanging around in History of Japan for most part. It looked really shallow especially in modern history part. Haven't checked enough to say where else to make contributions yet but say, who read all the manual beforehand?

Revth 17:00, 25 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Hi all. I found the Wikipedia last year on a Google search and have decided it's time to put something back. It's a wonderful project and am looking forward to contributing as much as possible.

San de Berg 17:00, 25 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Hi everyone. My name is Patrick, and I also found Wikipedia on a Google search. I actually started using it quite a bit as a quick, easy reference for philosophical concepts before I even questioned what it was. Soon enough, though, I noticed all of the editing options, etc. At first I couldn't believe the premise of the encyclopedia, but I am impressed. I'm very interested in philosophy, and have been generally amazed at the quality and depth of the articles on all of those topics no one is ever able to explain. By the way, if anyone cares, the article on tragedy of the commons was great.

Hi, I'm Phil Karn (karn at ka9q dot net) and I've been using Wikipedia for some time. It has become a truly impressive work. Recently I've begun to make my own contributions mainly in the field of digital communications, but also in other fields such as astronomy.

Phil Karn 25 Feb 2004 2213 PST

A few colleagues cited Wikipedia for informal papers, so I decided to find out what the talk was all about. And here I am. I feel happy to be in such a realistic application of the marketplace of ideas. And I'd also like to try water sports, just once maybe.

Darkfelina 08:36, Feb 27, 2004 (UTC)

Hi, my name is Christer Enfors, and I've read several references to Wikipedia for a while now, mostly from http://slashdot.org, so I finally decided to check it out. Now that I have, all I can say is wow. I can't think of a better cause to involve myself in than the quest of compiling as much knowledge as possible in one place, freely accessible to anyone with an Internet connection. I hope to be able to contribute, especially in the areas of MUDs and PalmOS PDAs.

Enfors 13:00, 27 Feb 2004 (UTC)

My name is Bob and I'm a software developer. I've known about Wikipedia for a few years, after a colleague showed me a [WikiWiki] variant used for internal communication at a client company. A quick search and I found Wikipedia! My interest areas:

 Space exploration
 French culture
 Air Traffic Control

With some knowledge of the latter, but too busy to make more than minor edits when I see the need.

Hello fellow Wikipedians, my name is Terry Foote. My boss and best friend is the Big Kahuna of Wikipedia, Jimbo Wales. Because of this, I've followed the incredible development of Wikipedia from the beginning, but never really seriously participated in it until now. I'm interested in a lot of different things, and this is one of the things I love about Wikipedia and read it sometimes for hours. Most of my editing or contributions will be found in history, politics, movies, baseball, art, music, and places in America.

Fibonacci

[edit]

Hello, I'm Fibonacci, writing from Bogotá (Colombia), where I live, although I am from Milan (Italy). I'm studying maths and physics and teaching calculus in the uni. I'm interested (besides maths and physics) in languages (speak 3, learning 2, and planning to learn more), music, videogames, and some other things that may escape my memory right now. I found it after doing a Google search on furries (I am one), contributed anonymously, and then figured (finally!) that I could join.

I'm Larry Gilbert. I live in Seattle. I've done a little work on Wikipedia before its last big reorganization, but I'll be darned if I can remember what it was. My keenest interest right now is filling in musical data and articles for Wikipedia:WikiProject_Albums. I also know Esperanto and have done some work on the Esperanto Wikipedia, so I may want to do some more work on translating things between the EN and EO sides. In closing, I like this place a lot better than Everything2. :-)

'lo, everybody. I'm David, username DMaclKnapp, and I only got around to looking at Wikipedia a week ago. Amazing thing! I live on an island in the Gulf of Thailand, where I spend my time on a restaurant, photography, and developing websites and software that never get finished. I'm hoping nearly 40 years out here will let me make some useful contributions on various Thai things. David K 10:42, 1 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Hello, I'm Andris, from Latvia. I plan to work on some articles about my country, neighbouring countries and science, in particular mathematics (professional interest). Andris 19:33, 1 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Hi! I'm interested mostly in the following subjects: hydrocarbons, hydrocarbon chemistry and technology, catalysis and fuels. Unconcerned 21:50, 1 Mar 2004 (UTC)

I'm new. I have started to do a lot of RC patrolling. I hope to do a lot of work here. Well My interests range from computers to old B&W Photo. I have a website that sometimes is better than other times. Http://www.creativeloafing.org I have somewhat poor english skills, and am better with art math and science. I guess this is why I am working the RC post. Quinwound 23:38, Mar 1, 2004 (UTC)

Hi! I'm Michael. I'm a lecturer at the Malaysia campus of the University of Nottingham. I have done some research in mathematics, particularly the theory of abstract polytopes, but am now moving into computer science. I found out about wikipedia by reading an article in the Far East Economic Review. It's a great concept! mike40033 03:52, 2 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Hello, all! I'm "starsong," physics major and general knowledge enthusiast. I found a sign error in the inductor article, created an account, fixed it, and realized six hours later that I needed to stop editing and do my quantum homework. Wikipedia's addictive.  :) Starsong 00:11, 3 Mar 2004 (UTC)

I'm a student at the University of Oslo where i currently study History. I have also studied History of Religions, where I have a speciality in New religious movements and the New Age. I will try to limit my entries to these fields, and not on randoms topics as I have done a few times now. I'm planning to be keep a relatively low activity niveau at Wikipedia, and prioritize my studies :-). But I like the concept! PeterKristo 19:02, 3 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Hi, I'm Dan - a technical web developer from Stanford in the Vale, Oxfordshire UK. I've been using Wikipedia for a while and thought it was about time I gave something back, so have started writing articles.

Interests: Sci-fi books, cars, DIY, computery type things :) Danhuby 21:17, 4 Mar 2004

I am a professor at the University of Campinas, Brazil. Most of my research is in computer graphics, computational geometry, image processing, and related topics. I have also some experience in natural language procesing and statistical linguistics. Jorge Stolfi 23:18, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Hi. I've been editing John Kerry for awhile, with minor edits to Duverger's Law and Howard Dean, among other articles. Thought I'd introduce myself. -- Wikisux 00:42, 6 Mar 2004 (UTC)

'ello mates! I'm Lethander Banesidhe (an alias) I THINK I found out about Wikipedia on Encyclopedia.com. Anyway, i used it for a while, but it wasn't until today that I found out what it really was and how it all works. This is an AWESOME idea, kudos for the creators! I'll try to be a good contributor, I've already modified several posts, and as I find posts to which I can contribute, I'll do so. Beannachd agus Slainte.

Hello, just another user passing through, I hope to learn something here. Richard cocks 17:51, Mar 8, 2004 (UTC)

Hi, I'm Maldeus. After mooching off of other people's excellent wikis off of this excellent site for almost half a year, I decided I should try to give back to the system. I like to edit pages on physical sciences as well as do little minor edits here and there on just about anything. You can read my page, but as of now it's not really worth reading (in my less lazy periods I'll give it a facelift). Drop me a line, I have nothing better to do.

Valete omnes,

Maldeus | Talk 00:06, Mar 9, 2004 (UTC)

Hey - I'm Adam Faanes (original username, eh?) I'm studying history, economics, and government. I'd like to contribute to history in the period from about 1650-1950, although I'm here to learn as much as anything else, so if the encyclopedia needs stuff on West Africans in 2000 B.C.E., then I'm there. Oh...I found out about Wikipedia while researching stuff and figured I should contribute. It's a good way to study for tests.

Adam Faanes 08:55, 9 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Hi, I meant to do this when I first registered, but just waded right into editing and forgot! I'm Jim, I'm a junior majoring in Political Science & Theatre at Dickinson College. I'm from Maine, USA. Xinoph 12:39, Mar 9, 2004 (UTC)

Hi there, greetings from Norway. So, there's a place for us newcomers to say "Hi", that's cool. I've now done it, and to repeat some of the content from my user page I'll just say that I'm dropping by now and then, mostly for adding Norwegian links, but hopefully also make additions to the comprehensive collection of articles here. -- Sunny256 07:37, 10 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Greetings to all the Wikipedians. I am Forest Dweller. This site is immensely useful, but I do have some things I will add here, from time to time, as they pop up in my research. I do research on the web, and in various other places, for information about many things, and distill them down a bit for clients, so will enjoy sharing with others. American, living in Canada, voracious reader. Found this site doing research, or course!

HI, my name is Cornelius
...but you can call me Sj.
Living Stateside; love the Sun, Wind, Water, and Earth, and the awesome Void. Language and complexity are similarly beloved. Messages left in languages other than English will be especially welcome.

Lectori salutem! My name is Sietse Brouwer; I'm in my final year of high school in the Netherlands, which means that I haven't yet specialised into a certain field. This is not really bad: there are so many things I like, that I'm not sure I want to choose among them.
I'm a Dutch/English bilingual , and I have a good eye for language - I'm good at spotting spelling mistakes and inconsistencies. I also have a good ear for language, but that has less bearing on the Wikipedia :-).
I plan to do a lot of article revising, be it Wikifying or peer reviewing, as well as expanding stubs. Eventually, I may start writing complete articles of my own. Sietse 10:17, 11 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Hello everyone,

I have finally joined properly after making various contributions over the past few months, the most notable being the entire article for Nuclear medicine. I am an Australian who is a former nuclear medicine technologist, and have now moved on to involving myself in radiological/medical informatics (ie. PACS, DICOM, etc.)

I always find Wikipedia an interesting read, and am looking forward to contributing more.

Hello, I am a week away from graduating high school and hope to add to the noosphere of knowledge already present on this excellent site.

Hi, my name's Conal, I'm from Ireland. I heard about this page from a friend and followed a link in a user's signature in Slashdot. I'm a Computer Engineer and researcher at a university here. I hope to share some of the knowledge I've built up over the years. My first contribution was about Irish breakfasts.

Hello, my name's Rory Parle, and I'm shocked by the number of new users I can see on this page for only the last few weeks. I'm a Physics student from Dublin, Ireland, but won't be for much longer. I heard about Wikipedia through Slashdot, alt.fan.pratchett, and the knowledgebase at kb.mozillazine.org. I really didn't know what I could add when I first signed up, but I've just done some local stuff for my home town and county, and I guess physics isn't out of the question (although I guess it's pretty much covered).

Hi all. My name is Hwan and I'm an engineering student from Duke, soon to be a CS Ph.D. student at (location unknown!) come this Fall. I'm fluent in Korean and speak some Spanish. I've been mostly fixing random spelling errors (often resulting from my own misspellings from google searches) and looking at the most recent articles changes. If you're using AIM, drop me a line at Hwantastic. I'm from Houston, Texas, the new fat-city-USA!

I am Lukwam and I am addicted to Wikipedia.

I'm interested in a number of things, including music, puzzles, games, science, mathematics, philosophy, religion, sketch comedy, animated cartoons, communities, society, weblogs and a bunch of other clickable words and phrases.

I joined a couple of weeks ago but didn't post here before. I'm not an article writer but try to make Minor Edits where I see something has become out of date or is simply wrong.

Hello, I'm Kyle. I am high school student in Florida (USA). I enjoy more things than I have time to do including jazz, chess, video games, politics, and computers. I am looking at engineering as a college major. First off, I want to thank everyone in this community. I found Wikipedia through that cheap magazine, I mean PC Magazine, when they did an article featuring internet gems. I now use this site for homework pursuits and pleasure reading. I want to start writing articles and contributing, but I don't know that much about any one thing. I have a little knowledge on lots of things. I would love to see some messages on my talk line, so drop me a line if you have any ideas or comments. kmac 20:34, Mar 16, 2004 (UTC)

Hello!

I am Edcolins. Just arriving. I found wikipedia while googling or altavisting something (I can't remember what I was actually looking for). I dunno yet in which fields I am gonna contribute most but have a look at my user page to see the start. Comments on my first contributions are very welcome!

Database

[edit]

Hi all---

My name is Dave. A friend gave me the nickname Database some 25 years ago, which is a play on my initials (DB) and that we were working on a database system for a research lab at the time.

I found Wikipedia while googling for info on atherosclerosis. I'm amazed at the coverage of topics I've found here so far.

G'day

My name is RayTomes and I am interested in cycles (recurring phenomena) in all things, including astronomy, physics, economics and music. I have begun adding some pages on these matters and intend to add quite a lot more.

This wikipedia is a great idea and I am having fun. RayTomes 22:03, 17 Mar 2004 (UTC)

[edit]

Hello! I am very happy with the warm welcome I have recieved at Wikipedia. I am a Computer Engineering major living in San Jose. My main interests are Computer hardware, Automobiles, and Physics, but I know a little bit about a whole lot, so I may stick to minor edits and additions before I go crazy with the article creation. I got here via Slashdot.

[edit]

Hiya - I've used Wikipedia quite a bit over time as a reference. This week I noticed a small error in an article and decided to register as a user so I could fix it, and then just kept going, adding a few more things to the article. I don't know how much I can contribute, but I'd like to do what I can. I've already learned to be careful about upper and lower case letters, such that the "Separation Of Powers" topic is different from the "Separation of powers" page! I'll have to keep an eye on that one.

I'm Anthony Campbell, in London. I joined recently and already have contributed a page on Modern (Western) acupuncture as well as a few minor edits. I'm a retired physician with 30 years' experience of unconventional medicine, mainly homeopathy and acupuncture. Perhaps surprisingly, however, I'm pretty skeptical about many of the claims made for these things. I have many interests outside medicine. These include general science, evolution. palaeontology, philosophy, and religion. I have electronic books on my website dealing with homeopathy and the Assassins. I also have over 200 book reviews on a wide range of subjects. My website is [3].

Greetings! I'm a physicist. I live in Aurora, Illinois, USA. I use the wikipedia frequently to look up information. I'm also a martial artist, trained in jiu jitsu. I hope to contribute in scientific and technical areas of the Wikipedia. I'm not very verbose in my writing. Obviously.

Hello, Wikipedia! I was a bit surprised to stumble upon your new user log—after all, we've known each other for several months now. But that's just what I like about you: something new every day.

I got first interested in you because you show up more and more often on my web searches. Science and technology, math and puzzles, standards and languages, all those things interest me. I guess I just like to learn things.

I can do HTML, TeX, and PNG for you, things I know you enjoy. I'm going to tell you about mathematics, physics, programming. And you can do stuff for me too. You can help me to practice my technical writing skills, for writing is one of my favorite activities. You can also help me to improve my English, because I'm Dutch, you see. We're going to have lots of fun together!

Well, I've got to do more writing now. Write a "hello, wikipedia" program, write an encyclopedia… Hope you write me soon, your

Peter Ellis

[edit]

Hello, I'm User:Peter Ellis from Canberra, the city in the Australian Capital Territory. I am interested in: places I live and have lived, and things I know about. In my spare time, I regularly write for several magazines and I am a broadcaster on community radio stations and the national Amateur Radio news service. Computer software that is not intuitive frustrates me utterly, so the Wikipedia.org interface pleases me greatly!

Hello, I'm Grakkar, and I hail from Fairfield, Iowa. I will probably spend most of my time editing material on Video Games, but I also like Golf and Little Stick Figures Killing Each Other. I own a PlayStation 2 and a very fast computer with Linux on it. I just got Unreal Tournament 2004, so I probably won't eat, drink, or visit Wikipedia for awhile.

Wha...how come I'm 15.1...*grumbles*

Lmorris

[edit]

Hello, I'm Lmorris from Delaware, Ohio. I am a frustrated researcher with too much time on my hands. What that means is I love looking up odd things for no reason. So my edits are probably going to be very odd and far between. I went to DeVry and wasted too much money learning to program, so I may drop in on computer topics. So far I have edited two articles before I got a user name, but they were very minor edits. --Lmorris 03:46, 19 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Héllo, I'm Kandar from Indonesia, work in life science research. Wikipedia, it's a huge project right? I like it. I'm interested in developing the Sundanese version of Wikipedia, unfortunately I don't know much on how to develop the sites. I need to learn first.

Hi, I'm a student in Canada finishing up high school. I've been adding some content about organizations of which I've been part, but my 'field' is Canadian politics. Anyway, I think this is a terrific project and I look forward to being a part of it.

conradrock

[edit]

Hi, my name is Conrad, and I've been lurking here for a while, and I love Wikipedia, so I feel that I should start contributing more, in my name, instead of the simple edits I did, with only my IP giving me credit.

I'm 22 years old, I'm currently a Mathematics/Middle Eastern Studies double major at Baylor University, and I'm a Machinist Mate in the US Naval Reserve.

I look forward to helping out and getting advice on the occasional time I may make a mistake. Go easy on me, I'm still learning ;).

Wmahan

[edit]

Hi, my name is Wil, and I think Wikipedia is a valuable resource so I'm looking to help make it better. I'm 22 and I'm majoring in computer science and electrical engineering at Duke University in Durham, NC.

My broad interests include computers, astronomy, music, math, and anything I happen to have experience with in real life. Perhaps this doesn't sound much different from the stereotypical background of a Wikipedian, but I'm also a decent writer and like editing writing for clarity and to remove bias. Maybe I can learn about some new subjects and help Wikipedia in the process. :-)

Hope to hear from y'all.

I am a biologist, specialized in molecular plant virology. I just learned about the wiki concept very recently, from an article in the science part of a newspaper from Zurich, and am fascinated with it. I have started to write about plant virology for the Botany_Microbes chapter of the botany textbook at wikibooks. This book is build around links to wikipedia, so I also ended up here.Originally from the Netherlands, I have been living in Basel, Switzerland since 1996. I did my PhD and a postdoc here, but am currently at home looking after our daughter and expecting a second child. Contributing here may help me to keep my neurons exercised ;-). The Virology info I found here was only about animal/human infecting viruses, I hope to add some stuff about plant viruses.

H2O

[edit]

Hello, I'm H2O from Texas. My educational background is agricultural engineering and I have spent most of the last fifteen years working in the irrigation industry. Where else can you get paid for playing in the water? Ok, lots of places, but I do enjoy it. I have been contributing to Wikipedia for about a month now, starting when I looked up my favorite artist, Peter Hurd, and found no article. I am finding this very addictive. I have also made several new friends, some of which I'm sure already would like to see me disappear. I just jumped right in like it was suggested on the Community Portal, but forgot to read the etiquette part. I am really not The Ugly American (who by the way was the good guy in the story, the rest of the Americans in the story were not), but as Barry Farber likes to say, "I am the world's foremost expert on my own opinion." Anyway, I plan to keep my mouth shut for a while and learn the ropes. I am really enjoying this as my wife has always told I like to inform people about everything I know. I am interested in just about everything, but especially history, specifically the Civil War, geography, specifically arid and semi-arid regions of the world, Christianity, and of course anything to do with my favorite topic, water. Hi, I'm Rich, a Unix system administrator and programmer from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, despite my (undergraduate) background in sociology. I'm also a musician who plays jazz and rock on the bass guitar, double bass, and Irish traditional music on the flute. I've used wikis for a while, and after Timwi raised my curiosity about Wikipedia, I had to come over and give it a try. I think I'm hooked already. You can find me on IRC as "mendel".

Hi, My name is Eva. I study biology and mathematics at the University of Utrecht, the Netherlands. A friend has been a big Wikifan for a while and I think it's a great idea too. Karl Ward

[edit]

Hello, I'm Karl Ward. I tried (unsuccessfully) to get Wiki into my Unix Operations group at Morgan Stanley a year ago. Since then, I've really liked the idea and I've been waiting for another opportunity to exploit the technology. I stumbled on Wikipedia through a Google search for Godel, Escher, Bach.

I wrote the articles for Son Volt, Uncle Tupelo, and Jay Farrar. I plan to flesh those articles out further in the near future. My interests for Wiki are currently American popular musicians, modern American poets, Free Software, Perl, Linux, and anything else I can think to write about.

I shall probably write more on British politics and government in the future.

'allo, I'm an American living in Sweden. At the moment I'm in what would be 11th grade in high school in the States. To me, the fact that this wiki thing works is a reassuring sign that humanity is not utterly doomed. I'll be glad to contribute... main interests are history and languages / historical linguistics, but I don't really feel expert enough on much to write any new articles yet. But I might begin making myself useful by translating some articles from Swedish into English (which I guess will mean mainly translating articles about Sweden). Looking forward to getting involved! -- julian 21:40, 31 Mar 2004 (UTC)
