"elected ... by the voters"

[edit]

In the Election section, the first sentence states "The vice president is elected indirectly by the voters of each state and the District of Columbia through the Electoral College ... ". Anyone who is elected to anything is elected by voters, so the "by the voters" part doesn't confer any new information. The "voters" could be a group of twelve oligarchs for all we know. I changed it to "by the citizens" and it was reverted. We should specify who is doing the voting. The point that the sentence is supposed to make is that the vice president is being elected indirectly by popular will. We can do better to convey this understanding in the reader than to just say "elected ... by the voters". I welcome any input and suggestions. 24.155.192.61 (talk) 00:44, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The voters elect the Electors. Then, the Electors elect the president & vice president. GoodDay (talk) 00:47, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Permanent disability

[edit]

To clarify. Wouldn't a vice president continue as acting president for the rest of the disabled president's term? No matter how long that would be? GoodDay (talk) 16:07, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That is correct, he or she would indeed be acting president for the duration of that service. Drdpw (talk) 20:09, 23 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Fix Kamala Harris migration responsibilities?

[edit]

Currently the article states "... upon his ascension to the presidency, Biden put Kamala Harris in charge of controlling migration at the US–Mexico border." for which a BBC News article is cited.

However, the Kamala Harris article explains with 15 citations that this is not correct: "On March 24, 2021, Biden assigned Harris to work with Mexico and Northern Triangle nations to stem irregular migration to the U.S.-Mexico border and address the "root causes" of migration. Multiple news organizations at the time described Harris as a "border czar", though Harris rejected the title and never actually held it. Republicans and other critics began using the term "border czar" to tie Harris to the Mexico–United States border crisis, including in a July 2024 House resolution, despite her having no authority over the border itself."
